It's going to be a long road...

In my previous post, i talked about training for a half marathon. I am writing today to tell you that as of yesterday, i have officially begun my training! Everything i have read about training for a half marathon says that i should first train for a 5k and then a 10k. SO, yesterday i decided just to see how long i could run for so that i can see where i am at and where i want to go.

Get ready to laugh.....

I ran for 12 min (about 1 1/4 miles) and had to stop! :(..... So it's not exactly what i was thinking i could do, but its a start. So i made a list of the things i need to change in order to get where i want to be.

First, I am completely giving up all diet drinks. I USED to drink regular Dr. Pepper like it was goign out of style! Then i started dieting and started drinking diet dr pepper because hey, it seemed healthier than regular dr pepper. BUT, after watching biggest loser, reading articles, listening to Travis.... i realize that diet sodas are my enemy in weight loss! SO... if i can completely give up dr. pepper then i can completely give up diet sodas too!

Second, according to all the articles i've read, a good long distance runner needs lots of carbs. This change kind of scares me because i've always been told that carbs are bad!! BUT my second favorite trainer, Jillian Michaels, told me (yes, personally :) jk) that i had a misunderstanding of carbs. Apparently there are good carbs and bad carbs... i just need to find out which are the good ones! HOpefully it doesn't jack with my weight loss....

And last but no least, I just need more self discipline in general.. which i stink at self discipline. I need to train my mind to run my body and not let my body run my mind. The articles i've read say that the worst thing a beginning runner can do is to let their body run their minds because the body will ALWAYS tell your mind that it is too tired and can't do it anymore. Which... im pretty sure when i ran yesterday, my body was ruling my mind!

So i have a plan, i have small goals that will help me acheive my big goal, and i am determined to make this happen!! Im just so excited to get there... so that i can say "Nana nana boo boo" to my husband who, even though he has every right to, does not think i will be disciplined enough to actually get there!

Oh, I have an article that you need to read. It's something like Couch potato to 5K in 8 weeks or something like that. I'm going to find it and e-mail it to you.
